Our Model
The Bowen Island Community Health Centre is governed by the Bowen Island Health Centre Foundation. It is part of the North Shore Primary Care Network and operates under contract with Vancouver Coastal Health. Operational funding is provided by the Province of British Columbia.
Community Health Model
The Health Centre follows the Community Health Centre (CHC) model developed by the BC Ministry of Health, which is a key part of the province’s primary care strategy.
CHCs are local organizations that provide primary health care and support services based on the needs of the community. This model:
- Provides team-based, interdisciplinary care
- Combines health and social services
- Focuses on the needs of the local community and patients
- Addresses social factors that influence health
- Promotes health equity, cultural safety, and social justice
Role of the Foundation
The Bowen Island Health Centre Foundation helped create the Health Centre and continues to represent the interests of the Bowen Island community. The Foundation board, made up of local residents, works with Health Centre staff and the community to respond to local needs and improve access to care.
The Foundation also raises funds to support:
- Building and equipment needs
- Community health education
- Health programs and services
