A health centre on Bowen is no small undertaking, but we are confident in our ability to make this dream a reality. We know we’re going to succeed. As our Bowen community is known to do, we have already begun to rise to the challenge.
The initiative is being led by the Bowen Island Health Centre Foundation. The objective of the Foundation is to improve the primary health care services for the residents of and the visitors to Bowen Island, British Columbia, by: identifying the health care needs of those residents and visitors; working alone or in partnership with any qualified organizations or with any Canadian government body, to develop and/or deliver programs to address those needs; and providing medical facilities and medical equipment to be used for the benefit of residents of and visitors to Bowen Island.
The Bowen Island Municipality has agreed to provide a portion of Lot 3 on the Community Lands to the Health Centre Foundation at a long-term nominal rate. In addition, some of the municipal fees will be waived.
The Foundation will raise $3.5-4 million to cover the costs associated with construction, build-out to codes and standards for a safe, effective healthcare facility, professional and service fees, fixtures, furnishings and equipment. This amount will help assure a health centre designed and constructed for current and future health service needs of the community.
We have a generous donor who has already stepped forward with a $250,000 challenge donation for the building with numerous others expressing excitement and support for the project.
