Bringing Health Care Close to Home

As community members of Bowen Island (Nexwlélexwm) we would like to acknowledge that we are gathered on the traditional and unceded territory of the Squamish (Skwxwú7mesh-ulh Temíx̱w) people. As people who have chosen to settle, play, and work on this island and enjoy all that it has to offer, we want to recognize those who have come before us, and our commitment to healing of not only relations but also of minds and bodies of all those that cross our health centre’s threshold.
Primary care team taking shape:
We are pleased to announce that we have received operational funding approval from the provincial government. And that means we can announce details about the health care professionals joining the BICHC primary care team, our first tenants, and what you need to do to be part of the new Community Health Centre. Learn more in our News section.
If you are interested in becoming a patient of a Family Physician or Nurse Practitioner at the new Health Centre, here are the steps.
BICHC to open in temporary location
New primary care team to begin operations out of Dr. Susanne Schloegl’s former practice location at Artisan Square. Read more here about the creative solution to ensure the continuity and expanded access to primary care through the BICHC.
What is the Community Health Centre?
The Bowen Island Community Health Centre is a purpose-built health care facility designed to deliver on-island primary care, after hours and urgent care (when fully operational), mental health services, social work support and more, all built from a simple idea: community health care in community hands.
When will it open?
Construction began in January 2022, with opening scheduled in Q3 2023. While the official opening date may change, please follow us here to track construction and help celebrate important milestones along the way.
Who is behind the project?
You are! Thanks to more than 550 families on Bowen Island, we have raised $8 million to build the Health Centre. The Bowen Island Health Care Foundation was formed to make the project happen and provide oversight and operations going forward. Meet the team, and please make a donation today. We still need your help and support.
How are we different?
We are fortunate to have two new health care facilities opening on the island. Bowen Island Integrated Health is a privately owned and operated, fee-for-service clinic. Ours, the Bowen Island Community Health Centre, provides access to doctors, nurses, social workers and other health care services. We’re the place to find a new doctor or nurse practitioner for you and your family, and a place where Bowen will have more equal access to health care services.
