Bringing Health Care Close to Home

As community members of Bowen Island (Nexwlélexwm) we would like to acknowledge that we are gathered on the traditional and unceded territory of the Squamish (Skwxwú7mesh-ulh Temíx̱w) people. As people who have chosen to settle, play, and work on this island and enjoy all that it has to offer, we want to recognize those who have come before us, and our commitment to healing of not only relations but also of minds and bodies of all those that cross our health centre’s threshold.
Many Islanders have been working hard to bring the vision of the Bowen Island Community Health Centre to life.
Part of ongoing commitment to meet community health needs
After years of reports and planning, millions in fundraising and on the coattails of hundreds upon hundreds of volunteer hours, it’s time to build the Bowen Island Health Centre. Read full article on the Bowen Island Undercurrent.
What is the Community Health Centre?
The Bowen Island Community Health Centre is a purpose-built health care facility designed to deliver on-island primary care, after hours and emergency care, mental health services, social work support and more, all built from a simple idea: community health care in community hands.
When will it open?
Construction began in January 2022, with opening scheduled in Q3 2023. While the official opening date may change, please follow us here to track construction and help celebrate important milestones along the way.
Who is behind the project?
You are! Thanks to more than 500 families on Bowen Island, we have raised $6 million to build the Health Centre. The Bowen Island Health Care Foundation was formed to make the project happen and provide oversight and operations going forward. Meet the team, and please make a donation today. We still need your help and support.
How are we different?
We are fortunate to have two new health care facilities opening on the island. Bowen Island Integrated Health is a privately owned and operated, fee-for-service clinic. Ours, the Bowen Island Community Health Centre, is publicly funded and provides access to doctors, nurses, social workers and other health care services — including after hours and emergency care. We’re the place to find a new doctor for you and your family, and a place where Bowen will have more equal access to health care services other British Columbia taxpayers take for granted.
